This was another one of those dreams that seemed to have a very long beginning, but I only remember the last little bit of it.
I was in some busy building, like a hotel or a hospital, or a little of both.
There was a man's head in a box. He was alive, and he was completely aware of the fact that he had no body left. He was in terror, and he was completely disoriented. Some men carried him away in this box. I could hear his head rolling around. I knew they were taking him away to either regrow a body, or to transplant it, spine and all, into someone else's body.
I could hear people mumbling and speaking in technical jargon that I couldn't understand. Then I realized, I'm next for this transplant business. I didn't know what was missing on my body. I knew that I had a torso left. I may have had arms, but I couldn't feel them very well. I knew that I had no legs. My body stopped at the end of my torso. I could feel air where my legs were supposed to be.
They carried me into some kind of operating room, and I was awake. I was screaming, or at the very least, gasping and whining out of panic. I couldn't remember where the rest of my body was. All I knew was that these people around me had complete control, and I had no say in the matter.
Then I was kind of lying in someone's arms, like a baby. I was clawing at their shoulders because of the pain, the confusion and the fear. I knew they were going to operate on me, but I was awake. I didn't want to be awake.
Someone gave me an injection. It didn't take effect right away, but when it did, I began to feel numb in my extremities, and weak, and cozy. I fell asleep - in my dream, I fell asleep.
And then I felt someone probing where my legs used to be. Someone started up a chain saw. I grabbed someone's hand, screaming, "No, I'm still awake! You didn't give me enough painkiller! I can feel everything!" Then I felt the chain saw bite in my lower torso, above six inches above the original amputation. I didn't feel it cut through my skin, but I felt it tear through the muscle. I could feel the pressure and weight of the blade against the deep tissues. I screamed again.
