Too Close for Comfort

Dream Occurrence:  Monday, May 21, 2012.  Approximately 3:00 a.m.

Perspective:  first person
Lucidity: 2 (completely unaware of dreaming until awake)
Intensity:  6 (very emotional upon waking)
Emotion: Terror
Accompanied by: Sleep Paralysis
Senses:  Sight, Sound, Feeling
Colour:  B&W
Recurring themes:  soldiers, dying, explosions
Fear Factor: 7 (scared to death)
Gore Factor: 2 (gore is implied, not seen)

I was completely alone on the battlefield.  The field was shot up and cratered.  It was nighttime.

Bombs were whistling in the distance.  I could hear muffled explosions.

I crawled on my belly, elbows and knees.  I may have had a rifle and I may have had a helmet.  It was very hard to crawl.  I couldn't see anyone else, neither alive nor dead.

Suddenly, I heard a piercing whistle.  I got up to run because I knew it was a mortar shell that was coming at me.  The mortar struck the ground.  I was blown off the ground.  Never had I heard something so loud before.  It was louder than any gunshot.  The sound was so immense that I felt it more than heard it.

I could feel myself flying through the air and falling hard against the dirt.  Clods of earth came tumbling down - I could feel those hitting my back and my legs and my head.

Immediately, I got up to run again.  I was in a full panic now, because the bombs were extremely close.  I was running.  Another bomb fell and exploded.  This time I was blown off my feet and to the side.  I could feel the blast against my face.

I looked up.  I knew I couldn't run from the next blast.  I couldn't run anymore.  My heart was racing, and I could feel my pulse in my throat.

Another bomb fell out of the sky.  I closed my eyes, surrendered and let go.

I thought, "Out."

Body transplant

Dream Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 27, 2012.  Approximately 6:00 a.m.

Perspective:  third person possession, then, first person
Lucidity: 4 (vaguely aware that this is a dream)
Intensity:  5 (emotionally evocative)
Emotion: Fear
Accompanied by:  Sleep paralysis
Senses:  Sight, Sound, Feeling
Colour:  B&W
Recurring themes:  soldiers, injection/blood transfusion
Fear Factor: 5 (disturbing)
Gore Factor: 3 (blood and body parts, most of the gore is implied, but not seen)

This was another one of those dreams that seemed to have a very long beginning, but I only remember the last little bit of it.

I was in some busy building, like a hotel or a hospital, or a little of both.

There was a man's head in a box.  He was alive, and he was completely aware of the fact that he had no body left.  He was in terror, and he was completely disoriented.  Some men carried him away in this box.  I could hear his head rolling around.  I knew they were taking him away to either regrow a body, or to transplant it, spine and all, into someone else's body.

I could hear people mumbling and speaking in technical jargon that I couldn't understand.  Then I realized, I'm next for this transplant business.  I didn't know what was missing on my body.  I knew that I had a torso left.  I may have had arms, but I couldn't feel them very well.  I knew that I had no legs.  My body stopped at the end of my torso.  I could feel air where my legs were supposed to be.

They carried me into some kind of operating room, and I was awake.  I was screaming, or at the very least, gasping and whining out of panic.  I couldn't remember where the rest of my body was.  All I knew was that these people around me had complete control, and I had no say in the matter.

Then I was kind of lying in someone's arms, like a baby.  I was clawing at their shoulders because of the pain, the confusion and the fear.  I knew they were going to operate on me, but I was awake.  I didn't want to be awake.

Someone gave me an injection.  It didn't take effect right away, but when it did, I began to feel numb in my extremities, and weak, and cozy.  I fell asleep - in my dream, I fell asleep.

And then I felt someone probing where my legs used to be.  Someone started up a chain saw.  I grabbed someone's hand, screaming, "No, I'm still awake!  You didn't give me enough painkiller!  I can feel everything!"  Then I felt the chain saw bite in my lower torso, above six inches above the original amputation.  I didn't feel it cut through my skin, but I felt it tear through the muscle.  I could feel the pressure and weight of the blade against the deep tissues.  I screamed again.

Zombie Alert

Dream Occurrence:  Wednesday, June 27, 2012.  Approximately 6:00 a.m.

Perspective:  first person
Lucidity: 4 (vaguely aware that this is a dream)
Intensity:  5 (emotionally evocative)
Emotion: Guilt, fear
Accompanied by:  n/a
Senses:  Sight, Sound, Feeling
Colour:  B&W, yellow
Recurring themes:  soldiers, injection/blood transfusion, monsters, zombies
Fear Factor: 5 (disturbing)
Gore Factor: 3 (blood and body parts)

The dream had been going on for sometime. All I really remember about the first part of the dream was that I was in a basement / factory / warehouse kind of place. There were other people milling about, and I was part of some larger company or colony.

There was a larger woman, too. She was tall and a little overweight, but she was strong too. She struck me as some kind of make-shift security guard or post-apocalyptic warrior type.

I don't know how I knew, but she'd been bitten by zombies. There was a chunk of flesh missing from her inner left thigh, and it was a ragged, ugly wound. It didn't bleed very much. It looked very infected.

Apologizing and on the verge of tears the whole time, I grabbed a large syringe and filled it with some noxious chemical, some kind of thick, yellowish cleaning formula.  I had to poison her.

She was yelling and screaming because even though she knew she was infected, she wasn't a zombie yet, and she wasn't dead yet.  If I waited until she was dead, it wouldn't matter if I killed her or not, because she wouldn't feel it and wouldn't remember it.

But I knew I had to kill her, then and there, before she became a zombie.  If she completed the transformation, everyone would be at risk, and me, being unarmed and without armour, I would be the first to be torn apart.  I was utterly vulnerable, and I had to put this strong and very angry woman through agony in order to kill her.

I jabbed the needle into her good leg, and I emptied the entire syringe into her blood stream.  I was in a panic, because I knew that if I didn't kill her now, she would become a zombie, and since I was the closest one to her, the moment she became a zombie, I would be her first victim.  I wouldn't even have a chance to run two steps before she grabbed me.

At the same time, it was like I was polluting my own blood stream with this fluid.  My blood was thickening and turning into a kind of liquid plasticine.  I felt nauseous.  My organs felt clogged and brittle.

And worse, even though I had emptied the whole syringe into her vein, even though she was dying, I knew she was suffering at my hands, and she wasn't going to die.  I was making her suffer, because it was taking so long to kill her.  I had to refill the syringe and try again.

As I dosing her with the second syringe, she started to rouse, and she growled, over and over, each time with more vicious intensity.  She tried to vomit, but she couldn't.  Her face was frozen in a grimace, and her hands contorted.

Then she was quiet.  She was looking at me.

She lunged at me, hands and teeth first.
